چکیده

Abstract. We are interested in simulating overland flow on agricultural fields during rainfall events. In this context, we definitely have to cope with dry/wet interfaces and water inflow on dry soil. The model considered is the Shallow Water system (or Saint-Venant equations) without infiltration. Moreover, the model has to be completed with friction terms. It is numerically solved by a finite volume method. The topography and friction terms are treated by a well-balanced strategy with specific additional features to deal with dry/wet transitions. The method as well as the choice of the friction term are validated on both analytical solutions and experimental dataset produced by INRA-Orléans.

Van Loon, E. E., 2001. Overland flow: interfacing models with measurements. PhD thesis, Wageningen University, The Netherlands. 185 pp, 75 figs, 39 tables, 5 appendices. This study presents new techniques to identify scale-dependent overland flow models and use these for ensemble-based predictions. The techniques are developed on the basis of overland flow, rain, discharge, soil, vegetation and...

Two-dimensional model for overland flow simulations: A case study

This paper deals with the problem of flood generation and propagation at catchment scale. The main aspect of the work is the use of 2D fully dynamic shallow water equations as tool of analysis for spatial and temporal overland flow evolution starting from an observed or predicted rain input. The paper firstly focuses on the model description. The governing equations and the numerical integratio...

Formation of runoff at the hillslope scale during intense precipitation

On 60 m2 hillslope plots, at 18 mainly grassland locations in Switzerland rain was applied at rates of 50– 100 mm/h for between 3 and 6 h. The generated flows were measured, including overland flow, near surface and subsurface flow 0.5–1.3 m below the surface. At some locations less than 2% of the rain flowed down the slope either on or below the surface, whereas at some others more than 90% of...

Process Based Modeling for Simulating Surface Runoff and Soil Erosion at Watershed Basis

Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP), a process based erosion model that computes spatial and temporal distributions of surface runoff, soil loss and sediment deposition from overland flow on hillslopes and soil loss and sediment deposition from concentrated flow in small channels. In the present study, surface runoff and soil loss were simulated in a mini watershed (57 ha) of Sitlarao water...

Effect of rainfall simulator and plot scale on overland flow and phosphorus transport.

Rainfall simulation experiments are widely used to study erosion and contaminant transport in overland flow. We investigated the use of two rainfall simulators designed to rain on 2-m-long (2-m2) and 10.7-m-long (32.6-m2) plots to estimate overland flow and phosphorus (P) transport in comparison with watershed-scale data. Simulated rainfall (75 mm h(-1)) generated more overland flow from 2-m-lo...
